Horse Trailer World started in 1999 with a simple idea…


Make it easier for people to buy and sell horse trailers online without all the noise.

At the time, finding the right trailer was not as simple as opening a website and browsing listings from across the country. Buyers had to search through scattered ads, make phone calls, rely on word of mouth, or hope the right trailer showed up close to home. Sellers had their own challenges, too. Getting a trailer in front of the right audience took time, patience, and a lot of luck.

Dave and Gail Mattern saw an opportunity to make that process better.

They built Horse Trailer World from the ground up with a focus on serving real people in the horse industry looking for the right trailer for their horses and their lifestyle. From the beginning, the goal was never to overcomplicate things. It was to create a straightforward, useful place where people could connect, compare options, and feel more confident about their next step.

What makes Horse Trailer World different is the heart behind it.

Over the years, Horse Trailer World became more than a listing site. It became a trusted place people returned to again and again because it was built with the horse community in mind.

That same original purpose still guides us today: helping buyers and sellers find each other in a way that feels simple, honest, and useful.

Today, Dave and Gail are joined by their son Jake, who brings 15 years of military experience, including time as an Air Force TACP supporting Special Operations. After years working in high-pressure environments where clarity and execution matter, Jake is now focused on continuing to build Horse Trailer World into the future while keeping the core values of the business intact.

Horse Trailer World has always been about making it easier for people in the horse community to buy and sell trailers. As technology has changed, we know the website needs to change with it.

That’s why we are refreshing the site, improving the design, and adding better tools to make the experience simpler, faster, and more user-friendly for buyers, sellers, and dealers.

But while the platform is evolving, our core values are staying the same.

We’re still a Small, Family-Run Operation, and we plan to keep it that way… just with better tools, better features, and the same commitment to the people who use the platform.

Horse Trailer World will continue to be focused, practical, and built around the needs of the horse community. We are not here to make things complicated. We are here to make the process easier, support the people who trust us, and keep improving – all while honoring the foundation this business was built on.
